Meet the Artists #1: Drasik

Meet the Artists: What’s your AKA and where does it come from?

Drasik: “Drasik”, is how people know me usually in this world, part of my family moved into this name too. Just a few call me by my forename. This AKA comes from many years ago, it evolved during that time to this name. I liked it, so I keep the name.

MTA: Do you have any other AKA, or did you have any others in the past?

D: For my friends my name is normally “Dras”, just to make it short. I’m painting since a short period of time with the name of “Write”, this name reached me by my great mate Dash. You know, laughing and rocking it everything comes over. Looking for some changes is always good, it helps you to improve your skills.

MTA: ¿Cómo definirías lo que haces?
MTA: How would you define what you do?

D: I simply do graffiti, looking for shapes, letters, always intending to create a set, having fun with the homies, laughing... At the end we’re a united family because of this. Personally, i don’t like to catalogue nobody as a writer, actually this name’s having a different meaning of the original concept. I don’t care how you call it, everyone will have its own opinion (and respectable), but I really appreciate more the person behind the artist.

MTA: Since when do you write graffiti?, why did you start writing it?

D: I’ve been painting since a long time, is a thing I always liked, but I begun my interest on spray paint about the year 2005 with casual tagging, bubbles, etc. After that I started with pieces and... until today! Maybe I don’t have all the time I would like to dedicate to graffiti because I work and I can’t do much more for it, but I’m always trying to earn some time to meeting people, visit exhibition or simply to go out with the homies to paint something. It’s like a drug.

MTA: In which cities do you express yourself? How do you see urban art movement in them?

D: I’ve painted in many places, but I mainly move around Galicia. In any of the 4 provinces you’ll find something mine, but where I paint the most is in Santiago. As I see it, graffiti movement is strong, in a constant change, there’s a lot of people rocking it, numerous unbelievable artworks out there in Spain, made by internationally known artists, it’s always good to have a good representation. In Galicia the situation is almost the same, it’s growing and that’s good, but there’s still work to do.

MTA: ¿Vandalismo o legal? ¿por qué?
MTA: Vandalism or legal walls? Why?

D: That’s the million dollars question for most writers, and everybody could tell you their opinion. Personally, I prefer both, without any doubt. Middle citizens are changing their vision of the urban art slowly, trying to move it to legal terms, appreciating it. To paint legally, peacefully, with your fellows and planning a good wall, you’ll need a signed permission, it doesn’t matter if it’s from the town hall or the owner, etc. When you need this requirement is because graffiti is illegal, In my opinion it will always be like that.

MTA: ¿Cómo definirías tu estilo?
MTA: How would you define your style?

D: It’s my own style, I wouldn’t define mine as any particular style. I don’t do always the same stuff, it depends on the moment. Everyone paints what they feel, we’re based on that. You’re always looking that thing that satisfies you, improving your abilities every day.

MTA: ¿Cuáles son tus influencias?
MTA: Which are your influences?

D: I like a lot of writers and styles, but I never copied nobody to define a style.

MTA: ¿Usas algún truco para inspirarte?
MTA: Any trick to reach inspiration?

D: I usually draw during nights, before sleeping, there are days that you make cool concepts, but there are also days where you don’t get anything profitable.

MTA: ¿Qué es indispensable cuando creas?
MTA: What is required when you create a new artwork?

D: To put the earphones and play good music, at home or in front of the wall.

MTA: Which was your most valuable experience? That one you won't never forget.

D: There are some, but I couldn’t choose just one. I hope to remember a special one in the future, but a good one, indeed!

MTA: Would you recommend any spraycan brand? Why?

D: There are a bunch of brands in the market. For its quality: MontanaColors, the 94 or the hardcore cans, but if you paint a lot maybe they’re a bit expensive. I must say I’m painting these days with Daycolors, and I’m very happy, the quality-price relation is excellent.

Drasik AKA Write

MTA: ¿Tienes colores o estilos favoritos?

MTA: Do you have any favorite colors or syles?

D: Favorite colors... blues and violets spectrum. It’s weird not to find one of those colors in my pieces.

MTA: How do you think normal citizens see your art?

D: I don’t know, everybody has their own opinion. I’m not looking to please someone particularly, I do what I really like, trying to make it the best as possible.

MTA: Where is this movement heading to?

D: Graffiti is on the right track. To keep it on and to make it grow the most important things are union and respect.

MTA: ¿Dónde podemos ver tu obra?
MTA: Where can we check your artworks?

D: http://www.facebook.com/RealCapsKrew you could find there good material. One of the folders is mine, so I’ll keep uploading every new piece I make during this 2013.

MTA: ¿Unas últimas palabras para terminar?
MTA: Any final words before ending the interview?
SIEMPRE REALES!! ... Paz

D: Any beginners out there, keep doing graffiti, don’t stop, you’ll progress and find for that thing you really like. Enjoying paint is a main point of this. Graffiti has to be where it deserves and is in a high place! To finish, I would like to send a hug and thank Rekone from Alicante, for his interest in this interview. A gigantic kiss to my girlfriend, supporting me in all things, big up to my people at Ourense, Coruña, Lugo, Pontevedra y Vigo, they know who they are. And special greetings and hugs to my brethren of the RCK ": Ozono, Dash, Semen, Demon and Barok ....KEEP IT REAL!! … Peace
